The main level of the house boasts a large living with catheral ceilings , and a stone fireplace. There is a granite and stainless kitchen, two queen- size bedrooms and a full bath. Take the spiral staircase down to the ground level where you find a large playroom equipped with a ping pong table and a second fireplace. Its lay out is convenient, with two bedrooms only 3 steps up from the main floor. Two bedrooms have their own full bath and feature fresh, European style bedding. The twin beds downstairs have new green tea infused mattresses, the sheets are manufactured by women-owned businesses, and the guest toiletries are all natural and infused with essential oils. There is a guest half-bath downstairs. The family who owned the land 200 years ago held Dorset sheep, and as you explore the area, you will see street names that reflect the history of the property. The barn of the main house still has the troughs where they would feed the animals. At one point, the guest house was a local bakery, and an oven in the basement is witness to that venture. The entire property is surrounded by a wooded Land Reserve, ensuring privacy. We have deer and wild turkeys that regularly visit our grounds, a residential wood chuck we call Howard, and from time to time a red fox will cross the property. The Center of Brookfield and neighboring towns with their restaurants are between a 5 and 15 minute drive away. Kent Falls, the towns of Kent and Litchfield, at the foot of the Berkshire mountains, are a scenic 40-50 minutes away. Other charming towns close to us (within a 15 mile radius) include Newtown, Bridgewater, Roxbury, and New Milford. There are many restaurants, shops, and art galleries around. The Elephant's Trunk, the famous flea market held on Sundays in New Milford, is a 10 minute drive away. We live in the main house on the property, and we consider ourselves low key. While we'll be happy to guide you to our favorite local eateries, the hiking trails, access to the lake, and other local activities, we will leave you as much privacy as you desire. We are multi-lingual, and apart from English, speak Dutch, French, Swedish, and German.

This cottage is in a quiet area with it's own driveway. It is very light and bright and has an open floor plan for kitchen, dining area and living room with Terracotta floors. This area has huge south facing windows and access to a spacious flagstone terrace. There is always wildlife in view! The terrace has a table and 4 chairs and umbrella as well as a gas grill. The bedroom is large, with 2 closets, and King bed. The living room is very cozy with 2 couches, and has a wood burning stove in the stone fireplace. One whole wall of the cottage is stone. The kitchen is supplied with gas stove, microwave, toaster , dishwasher, refrigerator, and the cabinets are stocked with everything else one would need in a kitchen. The pool just outside the terrace can be heated, and has a garden surrounding it. (Pool is open for Memorial day Weekend through the end of August- and can stay open into September).There are nearby hiking trails, and wonderful open space up the road with huge meadows as well as trails in the woods. New York City is an hour and 15 minutes drive away. The cottage is only 3 miles from I-84. The closest ski area, Mohawk Mountain, is 1 hour drive away.

At night light up the wood fire pit and toast some marshmallows in front of the fire while you enjoy your time together. Front facing deck also with amazing Candlewood lake views with fire table, chairs, and soothing stream about 10 feet away to set the mood. Relax and watch the lake in the main floor living room with open loft above and gas fireplace. The main floor is very open, bright, and great for entertaining indoors. Granite countertops adorn the kitchen which is outfitted with high end commercial appliances and breakfast bar. The sunroom is our favorite room room in the house. Open the doors to get the breeze or turn on the ac for a cool, cozy, and entertaining night inside. On cooler nights turn on the gas stove for some warmth, ambiance, and glow that a gas stove has to offer. A full bathroom and two bedrooms also are on the main floor. One bedroom is an office and off limits. Spacious master bedroom upstairs with seating for two. Elevated bed to wake up to the gorgeous Candlewood lake views or watch the moon shine on the lake at night. Large Master bath has a double sink, tile shower, and large jacuzzi tub. The loft is a great spot to catch the latest movie or watch TV. There is a 70" smart TV with wireless surround sound. There are three couches, two of which are sleeper sofas which comfortably sleep two each. The ground floor level has a third full bathroom, pool table, a gas fireplace, and Laundry area including ice machine. The ice machine is great for filling up your coolers if you plan on spending a day at the lake. The microwave is also downstairs. No matter what season, if bad weather hits and a power loss occurs, don’t worry. The home is equipped with an automatic whole house generator. The owners keep their boats/jet skis on the dock and may pass through the property to access them. They will wave and say hello but not disrupt your stay. If you need anything feel free to ask. This is our primary residence that we want to share with others. We are a non smoking family. The house is dog friendly. We have a “kid” of our own. Her name is Lucky and she is a Boxer. We are also bourbon lovers. We have a lot of bourbon books and bottles for you to admire. We have two 9.5 foot single person kayaks and a paddle board that our guests are more then welcome to use. A 6 miles per hour (9.7 km/h) speed limit is in effect within 100 feet (30 m) of shore, dock, moored vessels, and other places that the power company has marked as hazardous. The lake is around 40 feet (12 m) deep in most places, with some deeper areas that are 80 feet (24 m). Scuba divers can investigate buildings from the era before the lake was created, follow underwater roads, and discover artifacts. Some of the notable underwater finds are Model Ts, plane wreckage from small craft that have hit the lake since then, and covered bridges.[4] Candlewood Lake is home to "Chicken Rock", a large rock from which people jump into the water. There is also a rope swing that allows people to swing out over the water.
